Challenge match versus Bruntsfield Short Hole at Leith Links - 5th July 2007

In 2005 we started our challenge matches with Musselburgh Old. On 5th July 2007 we expanded this to include a match with Bruntsfield Short Hole (BSH), this resulted in a win for the visitors by 2 to 1. We tried to claim that our defeat was due to the friendly, welcoming nature of our Society and washing to see these matches develop, but truth be told, we were just not good enough on the night!

The recent spell of "slightly damp" weather continued but despite this there was some excellent scoring, particularly from some at Leith Links for the first time.

We now look forward to the return match at BSH when we are sure local knowledge will be important. We can rise to that challenge! The match scores were -

Robin Morris and Douglas Foulis lost to Willie Davidson and Ian Hislop 2 & 1
Lionel and Beth Freedman lost to Steven Doyle and Paul Middleton 4 & 3
Alastair Chalmers and Bob Burns defeated Fraser Gordon and Jimmy Robertson 4 & 3
Jim Maguire and Kevin Dilley halved with Simon Sumner and Gordon Cochrane

The best team score was from Steven and Paul on level par (36). Next came Jim & Kevin and Alastair & Bob with 37 and Simon & Gordon with 38.
