Challenge match versus Bruntsfield Short Hole at Leith Links - 1st July 2010

"For a memorable golfing experience using traditional hickory clubs, come to Leith Links and play on the very turf where golf's earliest rules were written"

Fresh from their victory the previous evening, could the Society continue their stunning form and win the "double" against Bruntsfield Short Hole at the Links?

Sadly, we well and truly came back to earth with a bump! We were in high spirits for the game, but what a difference a day makes!

As always Bruntsfield had a strong team out and they set about taking on the might of LRGS. All of the matches were played in the usual good spirit, everyone enjoying themselves. There could be no excuses made about the weather as the rain stayed off for the duration. The only answer is that Bruntsfield were better than us on the night. Well done to them

Richard Ellis & Eugene Bradley beat Jimmy Robertson & Gordon Cochrane 2up
Pat Denzler & Douglas Foulis lost to Steven Doyle & Fraser Gordon 4&3
Robin Morris & Andrew Gordon lost to Ian Hislop & Ron Archer 1 up
Brian Graham & Ken Gordon halved with William Wright & David Rintoul

Highlight of the night was a stunning 2 on the second hole by William Wright, you cant compete against that!

You may notice that Steven Doyle and Ian Hislop had played for us the previous evening? They clearly had sussed out in advance who the winners would be - or maybe it's because as two good players they make significant contributions to whichever team they play for. But just to be on the safe side, their win bonuses (of double helpings of pie and beans!) from the previous evening were withdrawn!
