Challenge match versus Bruntsfield Short Hole at Bruntsfield - 20th July 2017

The weather was set fair, a fine evening, would the same be said of the standard of play?

After our victory last year, the handicap allowance to us was reduced from 8 shots to 7. Would this prove too big a challenge for the bonnie lads and lassie from Leith?

The matches were over 27 of the 36 holes of the Bruntsfield Links course. All the games were close run affairs, they resulted in a 3-1 win for Leith Rules. The overall series is now 7 - 4 in LRGS favour but we are sure the handicap allowance will be "reviewed" again by our hosts for next year - unless they have short memories, which we feel is pretty much a forlorn hope!

Our thanks to our hosts for their usual hospitality and friendship, both before, during and afterwards.

The results for the individual matches were wins for the pairings of Robin Miller and Alastair Chalmers, Robin Morris and Chester Kruk and Alison Macdonald and Brian Graham. Our valiant losers were David Clark and Fraser Paterson.

One memorable achievement that should be recorded for posterity - Robin Morris had a hole-in-one at the 24th. He did offer to put a bottle of the amber nectar up at the bar, but he claimed that the pub were not able to provide that! OK, there would have been a few drivers there who could only have smelled the contents but the non-drivers may well have made up for them! But we will never know! Joking apart, Robin has had some health problems over last winter so it is a delight to have him back playing and supporting us, just as he always has done.
