Challenge match versus Bruntsfield Short Hole at Bruntsfield - 26th July 2018

The fantastic summer we are having also has a down side and that is on the golf course. Yes it is great to hit long drives which run and run down the fairway and makes you feel like a version of Jordan Spieth but these guys can also control the ball and make it stop. We had no such skill at the Meadows for our annual match! The ball bounced and run and shot one way or the other for no apparent reason and that was only on the greens. The course is completely burnt and suffering greatly from the lack of water which is required to return it to its former glory. However one side managed better than the other under the circumstances and that was Bruntsfield Short Hole. They won three of the four matches and that was after giving us six shots of a start.

The match results in the series now stand at 7 - 5 in our favour.

Afterwards we took refreshments in the Golf Tavern, beer pies and bacon rolls made it all worthwhile. As always golf stories and experiences were discussed and enjoyed by all. An excellent evening appreciated by all.

The results (BSH names first) were:-

Alastair Stewart/Dave Barron defeated Ian Hislop/John Dixon
Fraser Gordon/Ian Proudfoot lost to Jim Scanlon/Dave Clark
William Wright/Denis Dixon defeated Pat Denzler/Chester Kruk
Cameron Gardner/Dave Gunn defeated Alison Macdonald/Brian Graham

The only good news on the night? It means we get 7 strokes next year!!
