March 7th 2020

Our celebration of the date of the signing of the first rules started in 2007, this year therefore marked our 14th event. Venues have been varied, the first was in Georgian Antiques in the heart of Leith, we have ventured as far away as Gullane, though this year was a little closer to Leith - held at the Merchants Golf Club in the south side of Edinburgh.

Society Secretary, Brian Graham, welcomed everyone.

A buffet meal was followed by a talk
from our speaker Graeme Crawford. Graeme has been a loyal supporter of the Hickory Open, though he was very much playing "at home" on the day as he is a mot just a member of The Merchants, but one of the co-authors of The Merchants Tale, a history the first 100 years of the club.

To say he knew a bit about his subject would therefore be a major understatement and perhaps even a bit insulting. He regaled us with the history of the club from its beginnings up to the present day, with anecdotes and even some serious comment.

His talk concluded in our traditional way - by the presentation of one of our Society Ties!
