Challenge match versus Musselburgh Old Golf Club at Leith Links - 30th June 2010

"For a memorable golfing experience using traditional hickory clubs, come to Leith Links and play on the very turf where golf's earliest rules were written"

"A good night for Leith Rules Golf Society" .....on Wednesday 30th June 2010 the sun shone, the Links were looking good and all was in order for the 5th annual meeting between LRGS and Musselburgh Old Course Golf Club.

Before we teed off the series of matches stood at 2
- 1 on favour of our visitors, so Leith were looking for a victory to tie the series, but nobody would have predicted the actual outcome, a 4-0 triumph for the Leith lads.

Jim Maguire & Brian Graham defeated Robin Rae and Dave Barraclough 4&2
Robin Morris & Steven Doyle also defeated Bill Finnegan & Scott McFarlane by 4&2
Douglas Foulis & Ian Hislop beat Grant Campbell & Jim Green 1 up
Chester Kruk & David Maguire beat Jim Duffield & Rob Little, also by the favoured score of the evening, 4&2

So, the Society achieved their victory and tied the series at 2 - 2 - certainly all to play for next year!

As always, the matches were played in good spirit as could be heard by the laughter and groans coming from all parts of the Links. MOCGC did comment that their golf balls were not flying and bouncing the same way as their opponents; we naturally put this down to a mixture of skill on our part (aided by some luck) but by the end of the evening most agreed it was more luck than skill!

The match was followed by the traditional pie and beans and tales of what went wrong.
