Outing to Musselburgh Old Course 18th August2018

An outing to Old Musselburgh Links took place on Saturday 18th August. Eight players took part using hickory clubs playing a Stableford competition over 9 holes. It had been raining quite heavily just before out tee times but the golfing gods smiled, the rain went off and we got round dry.

A fairly strong wind was blowing and Alastair Chalmers and Dave Clark both returned creditable scores of 15 points. On a three hole count-back Alastair was declared the winner by a single point. He did comment that it was one of the best rounds he has ever played over the course and that perhaps he should think of selling off his "real" clubs. His partners offered the helpful suggestion that it was probably a "fluke" and he shouldn't bother!

When we played our annual match in May, some of the greens were in poor condition, apparently caused by an attack on the grass roots, but we were delighted to find that they had much improved, so thanks to those responsible.

Thanks are also due to Jim Scanlon for organising and to John Dixon and Georgian Antiques for the loan of three sets of hickories.
