This event is
held annually by Musselburgh Old Course Golf Club, open to clubs
with a connection with them through the ancient history of golf.
This year was the 20th staging of their event. We last took part in
2015, but since then have been unable to participate.
The format was
9 holes of fourball, best ball golf, played with hickory clubs, with the
scores from each pairing added up.
Our representatives were John Dixon, Chester Kruk, Jim Scanlon and
Alastair Chalmers. John and Chester scored 45, Jim and Alastair 46.
So although we did not worry the winners, we did not come last!
Prestwick were the winners with a superb score of 70 (2 x 35),
followed by Musselburgh themselves, 5 shots behind. Sandy Lyle was
on the winning R&A side in the last 2 years, it was a pity he could
not make it this year as the Prestwick lads would have given him a
good run for his money.
We were partnered by the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers;
one of their players was ex-Scotland rugby captain and British Lion,
An excellent event, thoroughly enjoyed by our reps, and we look
forward to being invited along next year.
